Neil Simon’s “The Good Doctor” Kicks Off the Lamoille County Players 61st Season!

You know his plays…Barefoot in the Park (1963), The Odd Couple (1965), Brighton Beach Memoirs (1983) and The Goodbye Girl (1993), but you may not know the playwright himself.  Neil Simon was born in 1927 and has become one of the most successful playwrights in the world, with dozens of plays and nearly as many major motion pictures under his belt.  He has more Academy and Tony nominations than any other writer and is the only playwright to have four Broadway productions running simultaneously.

Originally built to serve as the Town Hall, the Hyde Park Opera House has been the perfect location for the Lamoille County Players to entertain audiences from all over the country.  Their newest endeavor features a lesser known play, but none the less brilliant – Neil Simon’s “The Good Doctor” to kick off their sixty-first season.

Anton Chekhov, a preeminent literary doctor in late 1800’s Russia, wrote humorous newspaper articles to assist with the cost of medical school.  Neil Simon’s “The Good Doctor” pays tribute to these short stories with his masterful compilation including slapstick comedy and heartwarming musical numbers.

The Green Mountain Inn, located just 20 minutes from Hyde Park is a great place to stay when visiting the area.  With our convenient location on Main Street, Stowe and a quick trip to Main Street, Hyde Park, following VT-100 N all the way, you can have the experience of enjoying a locally acclaimed theatre production and a scenic drive all at the same time.  It’s the perfect way to spend a weekend in Vermont.  We hope to see you soon.
