Ski, Ride, and Race at Stowe Derby

The Main Event: A Fat Bike and Cross Country Ski Race

The cross-country ski and fat bike race will happen on Sunday, February 26, 2017. There will be a variety of races to choose from for all skill levels, including a free chance to check out the course terrain and descent.

Child-skiingShort Course

The short course is about 6 km long and is intended for children six and up and their families. It runs along Stowe Recreation Path.

Long Course

Racers 14 years old and up should try the 16 km long course. Choose either the freestyle or classic category (freestyle allows ski skating). Or, if you’re an expert skier, take part in the Derby Meister race, which means you’ll compete in both freestyle and classic races, back-to-back – the ultimate challenge!

Fat Derby

Riders 13 and up can compete in the Fat Derby and race down Mt. Mansfield on a fat bike. Only experienced riders should enter the race. This one fills up fast, so pre-registration is recommended to grab a spot among 100 riders.

Stowe Derby Recon

If you want a preview for derby day, this recon event on Friday, February 17 at 1:30 p.m. will help you strategize! Ski down the mountain with a cross country pro, Trina Hosmer.

FILM: Warren Miller’s Here, There and Everywhere

Filmmaker Warren Miller is synonymous with movies about skiing and snowboarding. This legendary director spent 60 years capturing fresh powder, downhill adventures, and telling stories about the love of winter sports.

In fact, he released one film a year under his production company, Warren Miller Entertainment, up until the 1980s, when he sold the company. Some of his films include Deep and Light, Symphony on Skis, The Sound of Skiing, No Boundaries, and Winter People.

Now you can see new interviews with the man himself, not to mention take some grand snowy adventures, in FILM: Warren Miller’s Here, There and Everywhere.

Ski Films Enthusiasts Shouldn’t Miss

Snow-mountainHere, There and Everywhere will be playing at the Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center for a limited time at 7 p.m. on the following 2017 dates: Saturday, January 7; Sunday, January 15; and Monday, February 20.

Along with interviews with Miller, the film will feature adventures with names like Wendy Fisher, Seth Wescott, Collin Collins, Jess McMillan, and Matt Elliott in places like eastern Greenland, the Swiss Alps, Glacier Country in Montana, and British Columbia.
