Looking for a little adventure to round out your winter season? You should come to Stowe, Vermont, strap on your skis (or hop on your fat bike), and join the throng of competitors who will race down Mount Mansfield.
Spice up your winter with some hot competition, whether you’re a pro or an amateur. Stowe Derby is the place to find it in the snow!
The Main Event: A Fat Bike and Cross Country Ski Race
The cross-country ski and fat bike race will happen on Sunday, February 26, 2017. There will be a variety of races to choose from for all skill levels, including a free chance to check out the course terrain and descent.
The short course is about 6 km long and is intended for children six and up and their families. It runs along Stowe Recreation Path.
Racers 14 years old and up should try the 16 km long course. Choose either the freestyle or classic category (freestyle allows ski skating). Or, if you’re an expert skier, take part in the Derby Meister race, which means you’ll compete in both freestyle and classic races, back-to-back – the ultimate challenge!
Riders 13 and up can compete in the Fat Derby and race down Mt. Mansfield on a fat bike. Only experienced riders should enter the race. This one fills up fast, so pre-registration is recommended to grab a spot among 100 riders.
Stowe Derby Recon
If you want a preview for derby day, this recon event on Friday, February 17 at 1:30 p.m. will help you strategize! Ski down the mountain with a cross country pro, Trina Hosmer.
