Run & Relax at The Craft Brew Races – a 5K & Beer Festival in Stowe!

A 5K Road Race followed by a Beer Festival? It can only be the Craft Brew Races!

The Craft Brew Races are a celebration of local craft brewing, an active lifestyle, and the surrounding community, followed by a local craft beer festival open to runners and non-runners alike.  All beer is purchased directly from local breweries in order to support the blossoming industry.  Early Bird Registration is available until April 30 and then the price goes up!  Held on May 30th at StoweFlake Mountain Resort, the festival will feature not only great local beer, but local food vendors and live music as well.

15th Annual Stowe Weekend of Hope!

It almost seems that anyone alive today in the United States will be affected by cancer in some way.  The Stowe Weekend of Hope provides an inspiring and educational retreat for hundreds of patients and survivors and their families coping with the many demands this dreadful disease.  The 15th Annual Stowe Weekend of Hope will be held May 1 through May 3 and offers education, enlightenment, inspiration and retreat in the restorative environment of Stowe.

Presentations will include free lectures and seminars on the latest findings on cancer prevention and treatment from national renowned oncology specialists as well as helpful suggestions for healing, comfort, spiritual enlightenment and communion.  This year’s Keynote Address will be given by Dan Shapiro, Ph.D., Penn State College of Medicine – A Funny Thing Happened on My Way to Chemotherapy.

Spring is Coming to Stowe Vermont – Here’s Our Top 5 Ways to Enjoy it!

Are you ready for spring? Take advantage of our great ideas!

It has been quite a winter, and the snow doesn’t seem to be going away for a while - many are still skiing and enjoying the slopes.  Soon though, the fields will start to stir with new life and little bursts of color will be visible here and there, indicating the coming spring.  Here at the Green Mountain Inn, we’re getting ready for Spring in Stowe and we’d like to help you enjoy it just the same!  Here are some suggestions for creating a memorable getaway to our quaint little village.

  1. Take a Hike…literally!  Hiking
    The landscape of colors in Vermont are not only spectacular in the fall, but in the spring as well.  Just east of town is The Pinnacle Trail which will provide you with outstanding views of town.  The 265 mile Long Trail system is easily accessed in Smuggler’s Notch and offers diverse trails.  Wiessner Woods is perfect for a long leisurely stroll.
  2. Covered Bridges – from Emily’s Haunted Bridge (also known as Gold Brook Bridge) to the Stowe Walkway Bridge which allows visitors to cross over Waterbury River, a drive around the area will be the highlight of your day.
  3. Fishing – As trout season begins in
    mid-April, it’s notAntiques just the bears and squirrels that come out of hiding.  Many a fisherman take to the shores of our many beautiful lakes and tributaries for a resurgence of man’s oldest pastime.
  4. Antiquing – a trip to Stowe would not be complete without visiting many of the eclectic antique shops that are scattered throughout.  Springtime in Stowe Vermont is your chance to walk the streets and maybe chance upon something vintage that you’ve always wanted.
  5. Maple Sugaring – Early spring is a perfect time to visit the local sugar houses and get a first sampling of the sweet treat that Vermont is best known for – maple syrup.

Celebrate the Arrival of Spring at the Stowe Sugar Slalom!

It seems that the word “history” or “tradition” comes up a lot when one talks about Stowe, especially within the ski world.  Being the quintessential ski town that it is, Stowe offers some of the most challenging trails and impressive vertical drops in the country.  For over 70 years, the historic Stowe Sugar Slalom has been celebrating the arrival of Spring and the tapping of maple trees, complete with live entertainment, challenging races, festive costumes and the ever-popular Vermont treat of sugar-on-snow, donuts and sour pickles at the finish line.  Drawing over 1,000 racers of varying skill levels and several hundred spectators, the Stowe Sugar Slalom is one of the most recognized alpine races in America.

All participants in the Stowe Sugar Slalom are invited to dress up in costumes best representing the theme of “A Spring Celebration” – from pink tutus to ape suits!  All age groups open to USSA licensed racers ages 10 and up compete on Saturday to qualify for the Sunday finale held on Exhibition Hill.  Masters class, all racers ages 21 and up with no license required, race on Sunday in two combined dual slalom runs.

Sweet Success – Vermont Maple Open House Weekend!

Vermont is the nation’s leader producer of maple syrup and because of all those sweet maple trees it’s also one of the most beautiful fall foliage displays in the country.  There are many wonderful things to be said about the state of Vermont, but one claim to fame would be that it’s called America’s Maple Syrup Capital and coming this March 28 and 29, maple producers all over the state will open their doors to show the public how it’s done!

The Helen Day Art Center is a member-supported, community arts and education non-profit organization in the village of Stowe.  Major exhibitions are displayed featuring internationally and nationally recognized artists both from Vermont and outside of the state.  Classes for youth and adults are offered all year including everything from figure drawing to video animation to painting.  A Night in Oz Gala, a special fundraising event, will ensure that the Helen Day Art Center can continue its mission to enhance the human experience through the visual arts.

Visitors can experience the most scenic and romantic horse-drawn ride, pulled by Percheron and Belgian draft horses in a one or two horse, open Santa-style sleigh, beautifully lit with enchanting lights.  Venture through a covered bridge along an open brook, while winding through a picturesque wooded trail, all the while cozying up under warm blankets and enjoying a perfect New England experience.  Open daily from 11:00 AM to 3:30 PM and early evening rides begin at 4:00 PM.

A Fun Week of Hockey – the Hyde Cup Hockey Tournament in Stowe!

Each March, Jackson Arena in Stowe welcomes hockey enthusiasts of all talents to one of the largest winter attractions it holds – the Hyde Cup Hockey Tournament!  Unique game rules and a friendly atmosphere make the tournament a fun and exciting experience for everyone involved.

Players: $95 Resident/$105 Non-Resident, Goalies: $50 Resident/$60 Non-Resident, Subs: $20/game

No hockey skills…even better!  Skaters in lower level brackets actually score double points for every goal, making them one of the biggest assets on the team.  Points are awarded to each team by winning periods, scoring goals, finishing with wins or ties and defending shut-outs.  Backchecking, passing, smooth line changes, defensive zone coverage and scoring are all optional.
