16th Annual Stowe Wine & Food Classic!

The Stowe Wine & Food Classic is a summer wine festival, held at the famous Trapp Family Lodge, to benefit charitable health care at Copley Hospital and The Vermont Foodbank.  Friday night kicks off the Classic with the Blues, Brews & Food Truck Crews event and live music from the Dave Keller Band.  Make your plans now to attend this annual signature event and enjoy a weekend of delectable foods, visit with winemakers and culinary experts and create a memorable getaway to Stowe.

Run & Relax at The Craft Brew Races – a 5K & Beer Festival in Stowe!

The Craft Brew Races is a series of six 5K races, with a race in each New England state, followed by a local craft beer festival open to runners and non-runners alike.  You have just enough time to get your Early Bird Registration in by May 17 and then the price goes up!  Held on June 14 at StoweFlake Mountain Resort, the festival will feature not only great local beer, but local food vendors and live music as well.

Enjoy Memorial Day Weekend in Stowe at the 22nd Annual Spring Vermont Open Studio!

Memorial Day Weekend in Stowe and across Vermont, for that matter, will be dotted with yellow signs – for what you ask?  Only one of the biggest statewide celebrations of the visual arts and the creative process – the Spring Vermont Open Studio!  The public is invited to visit artists and craftspeople in their studios all over Vermont, some of which are only open to the public during this event, and gives everyone the opportunity to see the work of these artisans up close.  The Spring Vermont Open Studio weekend will feature approximately 240 artist’s and artisan’s works from glassblowers, jewelers, potters, weavers, quilt makers, furniture makers and so much more.

Spring Vermont Open Studio Weekend is supported by The Vermont Arts Council and the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing.  The Vermont Crafts Council is a non-profit organization serving the Vermont visual arts community.

Look for the yellow wayfinder signs and posters that will help you locate the studios you want to visit, or visit the Vermont Crafts Council website to request a free Vermont Studio Tour Guide booklet, which are also available at Vermont Information Centers or from the individual participating studios and galleries.

Spring Art on Park & Chowderpalooza!

Food and Fine Arts…now that sounds like a great way to spend a Saturday in Stowe!  Mark your calendars for May 24 from 11 AM to 3 PM for Spring Art on Park & Chowderpalooza.  Grab your spoon, because you’ll have a chance to sample a plethora of outstanding chowders created by Stowe area chefs and then vote on your favorite.  Chowderpalooza will be set up along Main Street and for one set fee you can taste a great selection chowders.  Then take a walk over to Park Street to work off all that great food and listen to live music and shop from the artists and artisans selling their wares at Spring Art on Park.

Garson Kanin’s “Born Yesterday” Kicks Off the Lamoille County Players 2014 Season!

The character of Harry Brock has been played by a few famous men including Ed Asner, Jim Belushi and more, and “Born Yesterday” will continue to entertain theatre goers when it kicks off the 2014 season of the Lamoille County Players on May 2nd.

Harry Brock is a crooked junk dealer tycoon.  He brings his showgirl mistress, Billie Dawn, to Washington, DC where he’s come to manipulate legislation of a crooked deal.  Fearing he will be embarrassed of Billie Dawn’s lack of social graces, he hires a “tutor” to teach her how to fit in.  Vivid personalities come to life when Billie Dawn surprises everyone and understands more that she should about human relationships, corruption and self-worth.

Celebrate Life at the Stowe Weekend of Hope!

One in three people alive today in the United States will be affected by cancer in some way.  The Stowe Weekend of Hope provides an inspiring and educational retreat for hundreds of patients and survivors and their families coping with the many demands this dreadful disease.  The 14th Annual Stowe Weekend of Hope will be held May 2 through May 4, 2014, and has seen tremendous growth, both locally and nationally.  Presentations will include free lectures and seminars on the latest findings on cancer prevention and treatment from national renowned oncology specialists from Fletcher Allen Health Care & the Vermont Cancer Center at the University of Vermont, as well as helpful suggestions for healing, comfort, spiritual enlightenment and communion.  This year’s Keynote Address will be given by Jeffrey F. Gallahue, President and Founder of WE BEAT CANCER FOUNDATION.

Our Top 5 Ways to Enjoy the Spring Season in Stowe Vermont

It has been quite a winter, but the snow is beginning to recede and the air is getting a little warmer.  While many are still skiing and enjoying the warmer temperatures on the slopes, the fields are starting to stir with new life and little bursts of color can be glimpsed here and there, indicating the coming splendor.  Here at the Green Mountain Inn, we’re getting ready for Spring in Stowe and we’d like to help you enjoy it just the same!  Here are some suggestions for creating a memorable getaway to our quaint little village.

  1. Fishing – As trout season begins in Waterfall
    mid-April, it’s not just the bears and squirrels that come out of hiding.  Many a fisherman take to the shores of our many beautiful lakes and tributaries for a resurgence of man’s oldest pastime.
  2. Antiquing – a trip to Stowe would not be complete without visiting many of the eclectic antique shops that are scattered throughout.  Spring time in Stowe Vermont is your chance to walk the streets and maybe chance upon
    something vintage that you’ve always wanted.
  3. Take a Hike…literally!  The landscape Stroll Through Stowe Hiking
    of colors in Vermont are not only spectacular in the
    fall, but in the spring as well.  Just east of town is The Pinnacle Trail which will provide you with outstanding views of town.  The 265 mile Long Trail system is easily accessed in Smuggler’s Notch and offers diverse trails.  Wiessner Woods is perfect for a long leisurely
    stroll.  April to mid-May is also the Emily's Bridge
    perfect time to hike, before the May/June arrival of the black flies.
  4. Covered Bridges – from Emily’s Haunted Bridge (also known as Gold Brook Bridge) to the Stowe Walkway Bridge which allows visitors to cross over Waterbury River, a drive around the area will be the highlight of your day.
  5. Maple Sugaring – Early spring is a perfect time to visit the local sugar houses and get a first sampling of the sweet
    treat that Vermont is best known for – maple syrup.

74 Years of Tradition & Celebration at the Stowe Sugar Slalom!

It seems that the word “history” or “tradition” comes up a lot when one talks about Stowe, especially within the ski world.  Being the quintessential ski town that it is, Stowe offers some of the most challenging trails and impressive vertical drops in the country.  For over 70 years, the historic Stowe Sugar Slalom has been celebrating the arrival of Spring and the tapping of maple trees, complete with live entertainment, challenging races, festive costumes and the ever-popular Vermont treat of sugar-on-snow, donuts and sour pickles at the finish line.  Drawing over 1,000 racers of varying skill levels and several hundred spectators, the Stowe Sugar Slalom is one of the most recognized alpine races in America.

April 5th & 6th, 2014

All participants in the Stowe Sugar Slalom are invited to dress up in costumes best representing the theme of “A Spring Celebration” – from pink tutus to ape suits!  All age groups open to USSA licensed racers ages 10 and up compete on Saturday to qualify for the Sunday finale held on Exhibition Hill.  Masters class, all racers ages 21 and up with no license required, race on Sunday in two combined dual slalom runs.
