Long Trail in Stowe

As its name suggests, Long Trail is a lengthy trek. This means you’ll have endless opportunities to explore the Vermont wilderness, as the trail crisscrosses the state with footpaths, side trails, and campsites. Whether you plan to hit this trail on an extended hike, a day trip, or just want to take a few hours to explore the backcountry, this is the path to follow for breathtaking nature views.

Pinnacle Trail

For a fairly short hike, head to this trail, which is 1.4 miles long and will take you on a gradual incline up to the Pinnacle, one of the peaks in the Worcester Range. From here you’ll get inspiring views of Stowe spread out beneath you and distant Mt. Mansfield. This is the perfect hike for any skill level, from beginner to seasoned pro!

Cast a Line at the Vermont Fly Fishing Show

The perfect event for anglers and fly fishers, the 2016 Vermont Fly Fishing Show will be taking place the weekend of September 9, 10, and 11. Come out to The Fly Rod Shop and get a guided stream tour, see fly tying demonstrations and on-the-water presentations, attend casting clinics, and shop a range of vendors selling all kinds of fly fishing equipment. Grab some food or a beer and enjoy the atmosphere of like-minded fishing lovers gathered in one place. This is one occasion for fly fishing in Stowe you don’t want to miss if you’re at all serious about angling.

Free Casting Clinics in Stowe

Casting clinics will be part of the fly fishing show. However, the Fly Rod Shop also offers introductory lessons for beginners or those who feel that their fly fishing skills are a bit rusty, from May through September. The casting clinics in Stowe are a great chance to gain and/or hone some skills for this fun sport. The clinics are totally free and will include information about equipment and the anatomy of a stream. You’ll also learn a couple of different casts with guided instructions at the pond near the Fly Rod Shop. This will include tips and tricks for various situations and weather conditions.

Clinics are available Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Equipment is provided by the shop, but feel free to bring your own. Pre-registration is required, so sign up to pick up some fun skills!

Let’s Race to the Top of Vermont!

If you’re up for a challenge this summer, the Race to the Top of Vermont is for you. Held on Sunday, August 28, 2016, in Stowe, the race promises just that, along with incredible views, activities for all ages, and plenty of fun. Join 800 other athletes from all over the United States for a race that will test your limits and show you the beauty of Vermont in new ways.

RaceThe race begins at 9:00 am and takes runners, bikers, and hikers up Mt. Mansfield along a trail stretching over 2000 ft. Whether you’re trying to beat your best time or enjoying the views, all participants experience the community a race like this involves. The event supports the Catamount Trail Association, so while you’re enjoying the best of Vermont’s environment, you are also making it possible for others to enjoy it for years to come.

Kids Run in Stowe

It’s not all about the race itself—kids get in on the fun, too! The Kids Run for Fun allows children aged 4-14 to run a 1-2 km loop, depending on their age group. All participants will receive a prize at the end of the race, as well as an official race bib. Your kids will feel just like the adult runners!

To cap off the morning, a post-race BBQ lunch will be served, consisting of a delicious menu sure to replenish your energy. Sit down with other participants and share stories of your race to the top!

  • Blues, Brews & Food Trucks Crews (Friday, August 26): Kick off the weekend by partaking in scrumptious Vermont creations coupled with craft beers. Combined with the voices of Kat Wright and the Indomitable Soul Band, this is sure to be a night you’ll never forget.
  • Stowe’s Classic’s Taste of Vermont (Saturday, August 27): This farm-to-table dinner starts with sparkling wine on a patio that overlooks Mount Mansfield. Later, guests move inside for a five-course meal and can dance to the tunes of the Grippo Funk Band, while then participating in the auction that presents a diversity of unique items.
  • Grand Tasting (Sunday, August 28): Finish off the weekend with over 30 chef restaurants, premium craft beers, and more than 100 wines from all around the world. Guests can also enjoy the local band the Starline Rhythm Boys.
