Sweet Success – Vermont Maple Open House Weekend!

There are many wonderful things to be said about the state of Vermont, but one claim to fame would be that it’s called America’s Maple Syrup Capital and coming this March 23 and 24, maple producers all over the state will open their doors to show the public how it’s done!  Vermont is the nation’s leader producer of maple syrup and because of all those sweet maple trees it’s also one of the most beautiful fall foliage displays in the country.

During the Vermont Maple Open House Weekend, some sugarmakers will offer tours, tastings, and the opportunity to view generations-old methods for producing the amber gold.  You can’t just visit one sugarhouse either…there’s so many to choose from!  Here are just a few in the Stowe area alone.

Going Downhill is a Good Thing at the Vermont Ski & Snowboard Museum!

In 2002, the Vermont Ski & Snowboard Museum opened its doors to the public with a lot of perseverance from local businesses, families and volunteers and from across the nation.  Visitors can now stroll through the renovated halls of the 1818 Old Town Hall on Main Street and enjoy an extensive collection of skiing artifacts, memorabilia and chronicled history of skiing in Vermont.  How much fun would it be to read historic accounts of snowy adventures along Route 100 or view the many ways that Stowe has continued to be a popular tourist destination since the 1850’s.

Fittingly so, the building that houses the Vermont Ski & Snowboard Museum is at a key intersection where the most traffic enters the village of Stowe.  It has become somewhat of a gateway to the village, introducing visitors and locals alike to the significant history that abounds from within its walls.  The Museum’s entire collection is divided into seven areas: ski equipment, ski clothing, mechanical equipment, Vermont Ski Area/Ski Vermont items, 10th Mountain Division (WWII), fine art, and related Library and Archival materials.

At the Green Mountain Inn, we love to chat with our guests about the history of the area and share stories that we’ve heard through the years or experienced first-hand.  Along with the VTSSM, our Inn also has a significant history in Stowe and we’re proud to showcase that throughout our hallways and rooms.  So come for the history lesson, or come for the downhill experience; whichever is your choice (or both), we look forward to having you stay with us.
