The Hyde Park Opera House was built in 1912 and was originally designed to be the town hall. The building served as a town hall, a place for Sunday services, and a location for high school graduations. A production of "The Mikado" was held at this theater in Stowe area in 1952 to benefit a church that needed a new furnace. The first performance was such a success that the tradition continued. The Lamoille County Players were established in 1953.
