You’ll never look at a bottle of maple syrup again if you take a trip to the Green Mountain State during prime maple sugaring season! Why? Because besides skiing, there is one thing Vermonters know better than the rest of our great country – maple syrup! Not only do we love using it in a variety of culinary creations, we’re also one of its biggest producers, being the source of over 40% of the nation’s maple syrup supply! Thus, it is no small wonder that we celebrate the start of the new harvest with one of the top family friendly events in Stowe for the entire early spring!
The annual Vermont Maple Open House Weekend takes place this year on Saturday, March 23 and Sunday, March 24. Just as the name entails, this is not an event that can be housed in one location – it is an open house to many of the sugarhouses throughout our area! Visitors will get a firsthand glimpse into the process of turning the sap of our prize sugar maples into the sticky, sweet syrup we all know and love! The process may seem simple enough, but watching the over 40 gallons of maple sap that is needed to produce a single gallon of syrup is quite an experience…especially since you’ll get to sample it!
