There may truly be no winter wonderland quite like the one you will find in Stowe, Vermont. When you visit Stowe in the winter, it is hard not to get caught up in the quintessential charm of our historic Downtown. Yet we must admit that much of the winter fun in Stowe happens outdoors over the beautiful, oft snow-covered landscapes that make up our skier’s paradise. While there are always fun events and activities to enjoy during wintertime in Stowe, there are a few that help support the preservation of our amazing forest lands. One such event is hosted by the board members of the Stowe Land Trust (SLT), who are dedicated to conserving our area’s scenic landscape: Nordic Ski in Brownsville-Story Ridge Forest. It is a perfect chance for you to experience the beauty of the Green Mountain State for yourself.

On Saturday, February 15, 2020, Stowe Land Trust is sponsoring a Nordic ski in Stowe through the rolling hills of Brownsville-Story Ridge Forest. Please note that this is not a ski lesson, but a chance for any recreational skiers to take in the beautiful views from the Worcester Range and all across the valley to the Green Mountains. The route, however, is not set in stone (or should we say “snow”), as the current weather conditions along with the experience level of the group as a whole will decide where your skis will eventually take you.

The event is FREE and open to the public, but remember – you need to know how to Nordic ski to participate! You may be used to taking in your skiing in Stowe down the slopes, but that is not the skill set that is needed to join the group for this two-hour tour. Be sure to dress in warm layers and bring any provisions and extra clothing you think you will need. Also, you will need to supply your own backcountry Nordic skis, poles, and boots.

Are you looking forward to your Stowe skiing adventure? Start off on the right foot – or ski – by booking a room with us at The Green Mountain Inn. Conveniently located three miles away from the Brownsville-Story Ridge Forest, the starting point for the event, our comfortable accommodations and variety of amenities will ensure you have the perfect place to relax, recharge, and warm up after your morning in the snow.
